Over 400 irregular workers at Tongi regional office of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) yesterday noon blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in front of the office demanding their salaries of September and Eid bonuses.
Witnesses they also vandalised several vehicles during the agitation programme.
The workers said although the authorities concerned assured them of paying the arrears within yesterday, they did not do so.
Due to the blockade, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the both sides of the highway and home-bound people had to suffer a lot.
After half an hour, the situation became normal as around eight ward councillors assured them of resolving the problem.
